There was a time around '99, 2000, 2001 where wholesale clubs, SAM's Club and COSTCO were selling Chevron Supreme 5w30, 10w30 and 10w40 in 4 quart (1 GAL.) bulk containers. Very similar as to the blue plastic 1 gallon containers you can still find Chevron Delo 400 diesel oil (15w40) in. Has the 4 quart (1 gal.) containers been discontinued for Chevron Supreme Oil? Or does anyone know of a place that still sells the Chevron Supreme blue gallon jugs? Ed
ed they stopped because no one needs just 4 quarts. anyways kragen has it on sale for .49 a quart. i buy about 5 cases when they do.

I more or less thought the same thing. However, on the other hand, Delo 400 is available in the 4 qt. (gal.) containers, but diesel engines require more oil per oil changes, in which a 5 quart or more jug would seem appropriate. Oh well, I'm sure there is a reason why. I too, have bought the Chevron 5w30 case sale @ Kragen. That has to be the best deal out there, for a quality dino oil. Horsepuller, I hope Costco does not discontinue carrying Chevron by the case. If you don't see it in SoCal, could the NoCal Costco's be far behind?! I hope not. Ed
PS I've used (and still have it in there) Chevron's ATF fluid in my Aerostar's A4LD auto 4 speed trans, with excellent results. Never a problem with the Chevron ATF Dexron III formula. In fact, Saturday afternoon while running some errands with the wife, I thought to myself how lucky I was not to have had any issues with the Aerostar trans. At 65 - 70 mph, on the freeway, the trans shifts up into OD, freeway cruising is quiet, and easy. I change the Chevron ATF once every three years whether it needs it or not, along with a new filter screen. The fluid still looks good, even with the hot Sacramento summers... Chevron ATF =
ed most diesel engines measure oil capacity by the gallon thats why it is sold by the gallon. some bog OTR engines are using 30 gallons in the sump.

Ford390, so is it what you are saying that when a diesel is at the "add" mark on the dipstick, then it is actually 4 quarts low, or a gallon low? I'm assuming you're talking about big rigs (18 wheeler) diesel engines? If I am wrong, please correct me. Thanks! Ed
don't know about that. but cat mearsures sump capacity by gallons not quarts, so does detroit diesel most OTR trucks list the oil cpacity in gallons. not quarts like they do for cars.
That was my impression, too... the large, OTR diesels have sumps measured in gallons, not quarts. The small diesels in heavy duty pickups have sumps measured in quarts.
My Costco carries Chevron only in the 10W40 and also Delo. I cannot understand why they waste shelf space on 10W40 when most vehicles call for 10W30, 5W-30, or Xw-20-30?
Obsolete 10W-40 is still a big seller. Many a typical DIY oil changer, who maybe frist started driving a 1970's car that spec'd it, is very old school, "thicker is better".
