Even though I am a fan and user of Mobil 1 (Ow30) I feel Chevron Supreme Oil (5w30 & 10w30) is a quality dino oil, for the price. At work, there are 8 full size Chevy, GMC, one Dodge 1-ton and a Ford Econoline cargo van, all 2000 or newer. These vans put approxiametely 900-1100 miles a week (Monday-Friday) beat unmercifully, and all use Chevron Supreme 10w30, that is purchased in 55 gallon drums, painted Chevron blue. They are neglected, oil and filter changes coming at 14,000- 16,000 mile intervals. Never is there an oil related engine failure. The guy that works on the van fleet says he changes brake pads and rear brake shoes more than the oil (lots of stop and go, city traffic miles) Just a comment from an observer on the 'real world' experience of Chevron Supreme Motor oil, a quality product in my opinion.
I am using chevron supreme in my oldsmobile, which I just rolled over to 293,000 miles. I also believe chevron makes a quality oil at a reasonable price.
will chvron supreme 10w30 be ok in my 4.6 (1998 f150)i would like to try it but here in my town(n.c.) i can only find it in one store and they only carry 10w30 and 10w40
I doubt that those engines would be the happiest inside if ever torn down and inspected.
I think the oil would be able to go longer miles since it's used so frequently (If you put on 3000 miles a week on your vehicle..you'd think the oil wouldn't wear out so fast - not time to oxidize or for the on off to break it down). However...those types of mileage without change really is outside of the capacity of ANY oil, Now if you changed the filter ever week or two...
Aztec...Chevron Supreme, Havoline, and Motorcraft oils are ALL very fine oils to use in your engine if you're wanting to steer away from the high prices of pure synthetics but still want just as good an oil. 10W30 is fine. I don't know if Ford had spec'd out 5W20 yet in 98..but the 10W30 will work fine. What weight oil are you using now? If its 5W30 you're still using and you're not using any oil on it yet, then I wouldn't recommend changing. Instead, it'd be worth a short trip I'd think.
Get this. Oh yeah, I cringe at the length of those oil changes, beleive me. I would NEVER extend the oil drain intervals like that on my own personal van. However, here is another testament to Chevron Supreme oil, in my opinion. The fleet of cargo vans usually go for 5,000 miles, average, before a quart of oil is added. The drivers are required to check the oil each morning before their routes. But if you have an oil lasting almost 5,000 miles before a quart is needed, not bad IMHO. The oil is black as midnight on the dark side of the moon when drained. Also, the company buys and uses AC Delco oil filters for all makes of the van fleet. I have no idea what the ATF maintenence is, I'm afraid to ask. LOL But get this: The fleet maintenece guy says he pulls all four wheels off at 4,000 miles to check front and rear brakes. Front wheel bearings are repacked as well at this time, with or without new front pads being installed. From what I've learned, this service must be performed (especially brake inspection) and written records kept. If the CHP (California Highway Patrol) sends an inspection officer to the business, there could be a hefty fine if this safety record for maintenence is not available for inspection. Why? Seems the CHP doesn't want these 3/4 ton and 1 ton cargo vans on the road with metal-to-metal brake problems, the bare caliper grinding and scoring the rotor, in a haze of metal shavings! LOL. The oil change intervals, is a crime in itself! But it looks like the Chevron Supreme oil (dino) is up to the task at hand.
