CPS Picture

I've found the coolest cut-away picture on line of the CPS and what it's doing and thought I'd share it with everyone since the CPS is such a common problem. I've already made a similiar post on the OBS forum, but thought I'd share it with you newbies too. I think this is a great picture.

Absolutely great pic. Now I am sure my diesel mech is full of it. I have replaced my CPS in the past and have always known how a reluctor works. His explanation was really out there. I will stick with my common sence and past experience if engines. Pictures say a thousands words. Good job stroker2

Wings,

The CPS isn't a reluctor. It is a Hall-effect device.

Opps. Pop, you are absolutely right. I got caught up with the picture stating (2) a reluctor.

On The Left Side

Unplugs ..... Held In By One 10mm Bolt..... Pulls Out

Lube O Ring On New One Before Pushing It Back Into Place.

I Think It's A Good Idea To Keep A Spare In Your Truck. Keep A 10mm Wrench With It.

You Never Know When The Cps Will Fail.

It Damn Sure Will Not Fail In Your Drive Way

I got to take the one out of my truck (01 70K miles) and give it to my brother (99 160K) this weekend as he was stranded 90 miles from home. I have 3 bad ones sitting on my bench at work (and I work at a friggin' Chevy dealer).

What are the symptoms of a failing CPS. My 99 350 wants to shut off while driving at low speed and has some big hesitations when at freeway speeds.

yep, those are symptoms of a bad CPS. stalling, hesitating, rough idle, shutting off and starting up easily next are all signs of a failing CPS.
