I was wondering what exhaust size do I need. Right now I have a 2.5in piping with headers and a Y Pipe with no cats, 75mm maf and a chip and a K&N FIPK. But I have the EE Kit ordered and was wondering if my exhaust is sufficient or do I need to upgrade to a 3in piping?
What exactly does the EE kit do? Unless it's creating massively more horsepower and torque, and I doubt it, you're 2.5 will be just fine. What engine are you runnin'?
The EE kit is a S/C kit from Explorer express. http://www.explorerexpress.com/ Its not forwarding the link once you click on it so just type it on your browser. Instead it goes to motorhavens site. Whats up with that?
I have a 02 Ranger FX4 4.0 Sohc 5 spd.

Flow restriction (backpressure) is greatly dependent on the length of the pipe; a short(er) 2.5" pipe will have similar backpressure to a longer 3", and have the added benefit of high gas velocities (which helps scavenging and torque). If you want cheap & easy exhaust backpressure decreases, just shorten your existing exhaust (dumps behind the cab?).
Every S/C vehicle I've heard has a dramatically different exhaust note than their N/A counterparts- smoother, mellow, deeper. A short exhaust on your S/C Ranger with your favorite muffler might sound really good.
Well the only thing I dont like dumped exhaust is that its going to be really loud in the cab. But I will give it a try once I get my S/C, If I dont like it, looks like I will have to go 3in piping.
I always run straight pipe from cat back louder than muffler but not to loud as long you run it all the way to rear of truck would be loud if short pipe.

Unless you get a cheap, loud muffler, cab volume is nothing to worry about. If you want to dump under the truck, just get a piece of pipe and run it all the way to the axle. That should make it quieter inside.
I'm sure he has the exhaust by now... If you're going to dump it though, definetly do it further back (like behind the axle) so you don't have fumes in the cab.
