Question Engine ID / Alternator Install Issue

Can someone please ID the engine that the PO installed:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...&albumid=19007

When I first got it, the alternator was not installed, basically it was just hanging there with a single bolt. Well, it's now a year and a half later, and I finally start putting everything together and guess what... The chrome alternator backet that I purchased (just like on my 289) does not want to bolt onto this 302.
You can see that the water pump inlet is on the driver's side (versus the passenger's on the 289), although I thought that the 289 and the 302 use the same SB Ford alternator bracket. Am I wrong?
The waterpumps are obviously shaped different were the bracket should mount. The 289 uses the 1/2" x 1 5/8" spacer at the top to mount and the two bolts on the waterpump, but I do not have any of the same mounting holes on the 302. The top hole on the 302 block is larger than the 289's hole.

I would appreciate any help or ideas.

Boyd

Some of the 302's I have had used a insert in the large hole. This reduced the size of the large hole down to fit the bolt for the alternator. I have seen several like this, so I believe they come from the factory this way. Can you buy a new one? I don't know.

As far as the bracket, if you can't make it fit, I would get a bracket that is for the body style the engine is installed in. I am assuming whatever you have put this engine in, has the original radiator which requires the waterpump inlet on that side. So if you find a bracket for that model, it should fit that style waterpump(theoretically).

Ford used about ten(maybe more) diffferent waterpumps and timing cover combinations over the 40+ year run of the small block. Some will interchange accessories, some won't. To bolt up the alternator try removing that aluminum adapter bolted to the head, otherwise you're going to possibly need the the accessory brackets that work with that waterpump/timing cover combo.
