I think the reason they have not done it yet is because of the variable intake runner system. I think when they can get it to work together seamlessly they will probly do it.
It's most likely a marketing thing... they are waiting for the next big gasser push by the other two major pickup makers, and put VVT on a 3-valve V10. Guess who wins?
I am with 40Fords on the VVT... unless the system yields a significant HP and torque increase AND is super reliable I an not tooo keen on making this motor any more complicated.
For the next upgrade I hope Ford would consider is a mild factory Blower
If they put a blower on that thing, they can kiss all their diesel sales goodbye!
The only thing saving the diesels at that point would be MPG, and with the differential in fuel costs right now, that wouldn't do it for a lot of people.
However, the 2-valve V10 already puts out enough power for a pickup, and the 3-valve is even better at the job. Towing the 3-valver is apparently such a good towing maching, that VVT might make up more of the difference.
I wonder how close the V10 crank is to max-sustainable high-mileage use? With a blower on it, that crank is going to get a good twistin', and the cross-bolted block is sure to squirm here and there. And they'll have to do something about the crank snout strength - here comes SUPER-V10 with a 2" snout for driving that blower !
yeah they have had problems with vvt. the contour had it and when they come in and the customer would not change their oil it could cause some issues. I think if they changed the bore and upped the comp ratio to the same as the 5.4 that would net probably 30-40 more ftlbs of torque. 360hp 500ftlbs of torque would be nice
see iw as wondering because i am looking at hot rodding the v10 3valve and was worried that they had put the vvt on it because that just complicates things.
