My tranny is slipping and when i checked the dipstick, it was way over the top of don't add.... I imagine this was done by some jiffy lube place but who knows.
How do i tell what transmission i have? How do i service it and change the filter? How much fluid do they hold?
What engine, drivetrain, year?
Most likely it's a 4R70W, but that's just a guess. There are online places that will look at your VIN and tell you what you have. Also check the door jamb for a trans code. you may need that instead of your VIN. Look over in the tech articles, there is a good article on changing fluid. I also recently made a post called "any 4R70W gurus on here?" which goes over it a bit. HTH
They may have used the wrong fluid. I would have it flushed, replace filter, and refilled with the correct fluid, it may save you from some major repairs.
I just talked to the guy i bought the truck from, and it was just serviced by a very reputable service place. They changed the fluid and filter.... im guessing that is from the mileage then hmmmm... its a 5.4 with a 4r100... i was told that if the pan has 20 bolts in it, then its a 4r100 is... i'll try lookin in the door jam and try the vin idea thanks.
If this is a reputable shop, why is it overfilled? It's possible you have the 4r100, but the 4r70w is more common. You can get the code off the driver's door sticker: code U is the 4r70 and code E is the 4r100. check this decoder for more info:https://www.ford-trucks.com/article/...r_Decoder.html
