Hi all.
I have a 99 sd ps ,it has the shift on the fly 4x4.Recently noticed it wasn't locking in ,no big surprise from what i've read here.My question is are all the auto hubs the same? From what i read here it's been said that you can lock them manually but i can't seem to do that on mine. The hubs look like the typical factory ones altho there are no markings at all.Is it possible that these don't have that option or can they cease that bad ,I tried turning with visegrips and no hint of movement.Any thoughts?
That was the first thing I checked..... hoses seem to be good. I"m sure there's a vacuum leak, the reason I say this is once I got on the road (40mph) it locked in but when I stopped @ a red light they let go, so @ the next light I shut down the heat and it locked in again. But the question remains, are these things ceased solid? I just can't see that.
I would have the hubs looked at. The hubs might be toast, but they might just need to be repacked with grease and re-adjusted. The service manual does state that at 60,000 miles they be serviced. (if memory serves me correct)
How are you actually verifying the hubs locked at 40mph? What you might be experiencing is the transfer case engaging...and not the hubs. Just curious...because I am having a similar problem with my 2003 ESOF system. I am hoping it is not the hubs...and maybe the vacuum solenoid.
I don't think it's a T case issue,I'm being conservative with the 40 mph,Give or take 20+ ,I was getting really ticked off So i drove like i stolel it,and at some point they or it locked in.
Since they did lock in...then I say go with a good servicing on those hubs. They are probably all dirty inside. I have found out from FTE members that the hub seals are prone to letting in mud from time to time.
Well.....I think i'm going with the Warn hubs (38826).A friend works for a major trans shop and he can get'em for $327 + 14% tax CDN .What are you guys paying for these down In the good ol USA?

That's def better than the quote i got,Will def check ebay. Also this is to Krewat, how did you make your's fit so good?
How do you mean "fit so good" ??
I did have a problem with one rattling, and after contacting Warn customer service, they sent me a second pair of snap rings, which tightened them right up.
They do fit perfectly under the stock "beauty covers" or whatever you would call them.
$200 US - I got them from an auto parts place I deal with, and get jobber prices. However, I could have gotten them cheaper on-line.
