Constant Upshifting
I need help here please.... I have gone to the dealer and they tell me all is ok.... I guess they think because I am a woman I will buy that.... NOT
Anyway... I have a 2005 F250 V8, and I have a couple of issues... first one is the tranny is always up and down shiffing... without any added load... also.. the "power" seems less than....basically sucks
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.... Cheryl
With the 5.4L being the smallest engine you can get in a SuperDuty (SD) then it makes a difference what gear ratio you have. If you have the 4.10's then it really should not be doing that. However, if you have the 3.73's...depending on driving habits and the road grade...that might be normal.
Here is a "test" you should try. Before you put the truck in 'drive'...push the Tow/Haul button EDIT: OverDrive (OD). Now go for a short test drive. Get to speed (nothing more than 55mph is needed for this). Take a road that you normally drive and feel for the transmission up/down shift issue.
Do you notice the transmission having the same problem? If yes, then you should take it back to the dealer...and report your findings.
Hope this helps...and good luck with it!
see EDIT: Oops...was thinking of the pre-'05 SD's. My bad.

Okay...not funny.

Tell us the type of driving or the conditions you are driving in when you feel it is shifting excessively.
Also, the power from the 5.4L feels sluggish due to the drive-by-wire throttle system. Most get better response by getting the computer reflashed to a different code, while other justs opt to get a hand-held computer tuner.
Welcome to FTE! And we no care if you is a girl. We treat you the same!
Thanks Again.
Driving habits are not too harsh... It actually seems to shift more when driving "normal" and it could be on a slight incline, flat road... anything...Thanks, Cheryl
I have an '03 F250 5.4L that had/has basically the same problem. Although my engine is the "old 5.4" I know how you feel. What I did was put a cat back dual exhaust with a magnaflow muffler and replaced the stock air intake with a K & N FIPK (fuel injection performance kit). The muffler helped some and the FIPK helped some more with throttle response. The transmission is adaptive, meaning it should "learn" how to shift based on your driving style. But don't expect it to learn too much. I'm satisfied with the performance of my rig now and after driving it for a couple of years, I usually know when its going to shift or even force shifts by gassing it a bit before it slows. But that little V8 in that 3+ ton rig with a 3.73 rearend is working like crazy just to keep up with traffic.
