Elimination
So I drove my 97 to work today, started fine, then at lunch I went to start it, damn thing cranked a few times, then made a click sound. Battery is good, and me and the mechanic tried jumping it at the solenoid, but nothing. So this means my starter died right...???

Well my truck is a 98 and it makes the same clicking noise. I will jump in and go to start it then there will be a pop or a click noise then all the lights go out then my DVD player turns off. All i do is just move the battery cables and it comes back on, so you might have a bad connection like I do. If it is not that then i really can help you. But try the battery thing.

Sometimes corrsion can develop at the metal connector thats crimped to the cable, that goes to the starter, and cause this, best thing to do is to remove the starter ,test it, and if its okay the replace your cables, also do a load test on the battery if its more then 3 yrs olds, autozone will test it for free for you and do the test on the starter as well
another thing to do is to clean where the starter bolts and the bolts themselves as this is where it gets its ground from. hope this helps.

Ended up I took the starter out, bench tested it, it worked fine. So I cleaned all the connections, then threw it back in and it started. Turned it off and it started to do the exact same thing, but I turned the key and clicked it a few times and it started again. I'm guessing the starter is starting to wear out, but for now she works, thanks for the advice f250.
