E4OD Trans fit question..

Found a guy selling a E40D out of a 1994 E 250. Price is very cheap, says it works fine, will this work in a 92 Bronco with no mods? waiting for an answer on how many miles are on it but I'm interested. So if anyone could let me know on the fit, thanks...Al

I would think so. Shift linkage would have to come from the Bronco rather than the van. It should have the factory upgrades in it as well. This is assuming your Bronco has an E4OD that is in need of replacement. Swapping an E4OD in place of a different automatic tranny is quite a bit more complicated.

No problem there, I have the E40D. It's got 150k on it and when I had the fluid and screen done in may the fluid was literally like sludge. Clumps of what I assume was the material from the clutch bands was coming out along with the smelliest fluid I have encountered. Despite this mine is still running but it seems to me a good idea to be prepared for when this one does finally go, just have a feeling it's gonna be sooner than later.

Understand that. The E4OD hasn't got the best service record prior to 93 so finding a replacement from a newerr truck is a good idea. Ford reworked some shift parameters and beefed up some components in late 93-early 94 and things got a lot better.

I've seen the posts on reliability here too so that was my other concern as far as this other one being from a '94. Thanks for the help. Now if it has low mileage, at least significantly lower than mine I'll be in business.
