I need to replace the C bushings on my 78 F-150 4 x 4. I found a place offering 2, 4, and 7 degree offsets on the C bushings, but I don't know which ones I need to order.
My truck appears to be stock, definitely no body lift, but there are blocks between the rear axle and the springs. they are about 3 or 4" tall, and they have "Ford" cast into them and a Ford part number. There doesn't appear to be any lift/blocks in the front, but the truck sits level.
I'm thinking of ordering the 4 degree offset, any suggestions?
The rear blocks are stock. Sounds like the suspension on your truck is stock. In which case you should replace the bushings with stock bushings. The offset bushings are to correct for caster angle changes when the front of the truck is lifted. If you put them in a stock hieght truck it will handle strangely. There are many manufactures that make stock bushings. Any of the off road parts houses will set you up with a complete set of poly bushings. I'm betting that if the C-bushings are trashed so are most of the others. Many companies don't show stock items on thier websites so you'll have to get them on the phone. Good luck.
Sorry it took me a while to reply, I've been away. That I cannot say one hundred percent certain, so I won't. But I imagine that would be the case. I know that they market 2 degree bushings with leveling kits which lift the front end about 1.5". My main point was that you will have to get on the phone with a manufacture like Prothane or Energy suspension. They will set you up with a "stock replacement" bushing. I would guess that Ford would have built the desired amount of caster into the axle/radius arm but they may have varied bushings with heavy duty spring packages and such. But a bushing manufacture will know what you need exactly. I highly recomend good poly bushings, the handling improvement is well worth it.
The appropriate thing to do would be to go check your truck's alignment, get the caster, and then get the bushings to get your truck back to stock, (or a little more, which will aid steering feel.)
