Hey Folks,
I got a quick question, the plate on the door of my '79 F-350 says that it's supposed to have 12.5x16.5 size tires on it. What does this size come close to using todays size terms? And, what width rim would they have been on from the factory?
Thanks,
Al
My F250 had two of those 16.5 rims which I did away with they are rather hard to find tires for. It's also hard to tell the difference between 16" and 16.5 Some people will even try putting 16" tires on the 16.5 rims "BAD Move"
I don't have a definitive answer just yet, my '79 dealer brochure is coming any day now. When I got new tires on my '68 with 16.5 rims, I had to do some conversions too. For the front, a 9.50 x 16.5 is equivalent to a 31 x 10.50 x 16.5 and for the rear a 12 x 16.5 is very close to a 33 x 12.50 x 16.5. My front rims are 8.25 wide and the rear ones are 9.75 wide, perfect fits.
