I've read most of the threads regarding this issue but am more confused now than before. I have a 75 crewcab 4x4 with a '73 Mercurey 429 / C6 setup. The truck originally had a 360 and NP435. I prefer to drive a stick and am trying to figure out what type of bellhousing and which vehicles I should be looking at to swap the 4spd. back in. Thanks.

From your pic, it looks as if you have a highboy (detatched transfer case) if so, you can put about anything in there. All you need if you are going to switch just the tranny is find one with the right bolt pattern (351M, 400M, 429, 460) and slap that sucker in. You will probably have to get the driveshaft altered, probably shortened, and find the clutch pedals and such. I dont know much about going from an auto to a stick, but Ive done a lot of the opposite. Good luck, John

Thanks for the help. You're right about the divorced transfer case. The drive shaft was actually shortened as the C6 is quite a bit longer. I will need a new longer one for the NP. The clutch pedal is still in there but nothing else. Haven't thought much about that yet.

I bought the exact bell housing you need. It cost about $100 and I think it was for a 351/400/429/460 and if I remember, it fit the NP435/T18/T19. Not that rare, you should be able to find them.

Then it's just a matter of a new drive line.
