explorer 4wd problem

explorer 4wd problem
I have a 1994 explorer eddie bauer, and am having trouble with the 4wd. When i put it in 4wd, it acts like its in 2wd. I put it on jack stands, and everything spins all the way until the inside of the front wheels. What could be possible causes, and what could i do to fix it?

Sounds like bad hubs. Sometimes the hubs simply get too full of grease to the point they can't engage. You could try cleaning the hubs out. If that doesn't do it or otherwise reveal a probable cause, I expect you'll be buying new hubs. Manual hubs are cheaper and more reliable, but it would be entirely up to you.
