if your going for a car that gets good milage why don't you try to find a foxbody mustang with a 4 banger and a stick. mine that i used to have got around 30mpg on the highway with 4 people in it and running 85-95mph. they aren't the fastest thing on the planet but i know of people that get 300,000 out of them and they are some of simplest cars to work on, that is as long as you don't get a 92 or 93. hell even a v8 gets good gas milage as long as you keep your foot out of it, but who can resist the temptation
The problem is those cars (and most RWDs) don't get around in the snow real good. I've got 35miles of ND highway and 1/2 mile of gravel to get ot work and although there is rarly a time that I'll need the truck a mustang would probably have me stuck just trying to leave my driveway. The other thing is they seem a bit expensive around here, why, I have no Idea, but it'd have to be a real junker to bring less than $2k.
Hey, I like my V10 but I also like my 30mpg for commuting, lol. Well, I'm back to looking for a good well used high mileage car for my commuter vehicle. The Monte didn't work out so back to the sales boards. I told the wife that we should buy a new mustang for her and I could take the chevy as my commuter car. she told me certanly, as long as it has four doors, lol. So Like I said back to looking for good chaep car with many miles left in front of it. a V10 pinto would sure get some looks though!
I saw a Car and Driver show yesterday on Spike TV where they tested the new Mitsubushi Eclipse and it looked real good until they mentioned the 15mpg figure.... sort of makes the fast accelerating 3v V10 at 12 mpg and 5 times the weight more economical when you think about it.

Isn't it just amazing?
I don't get it - how can these tiny little vehicles like my niece's Inifiniti SUV get 15MPG on the highway ????
Isn't that obscene?
Does Mitsubishi have to abide by CAFE rules? I'm assuming so, so how do they make that up?
I am not sure what is going on... my Nissan twin turbo V6 at 3700lbs got 23-25 mpg, my Nissan truck with same V6 NA got 25-32MPG and my current 2004 Xterra same V6 NA can't get over 18mpg and usually is around 16mpg. We are trading the Xterra for a F250 in the next few weeks. BTW I got 28 gallons of 87 today for $1.979.... I suppose it would be too much to hope for another dollar drop any time soon but I am happy these butt heads are not charging $3.129 any more! (damned expensive fillups just a few weeks ago) (no grin)
Had a real interesting discussion with two guys at the VFW yesterday afternoon over a few cold brews... most of us have Ford trucks, only a few Chevys, and these fellows both had new cummins Dodge rigs. They both traded away their 2003 6.0L PSD for the Dodge for one reason only.... they get 18-19mpg with the new Dodge and both never got better then 14mpg out of the PSD. One guy complained about 12mpg in town empty!
The conversation started when one of them wanted to know about the neat KR V10 out in the parking lot. Both of them gave me a lot of respect and agreed that if they had known about the V10 they might have seriously considered it cus they had to compromise a lot between the SuperDuty and the Dodge and only got them for the Cummins motor. Great day drinking beer, watching college football and talking trucks.
