Work Xmas Parties

Anybody going to any blow out christmas parties? Looks like this year my company is going to have another LOOOSER style party, I may as well stay home for that one. Luckily my wife's work party should be a blast with good eats and plenty o'drink to be had, not to mention a lot of drunk nurses by the end of the night!

My work party is pretty good. Everybody leaves with something, even the wives and girlfriends.

My wife's party is in January. They figure they can save some money that way. Last year's was ultra lame. Some stupid murder mystery dinner that everyone barely tolerated. And get this: The bosses daughter figured out who the killer was. Nobody else cared.

Not I. See post about "Corporate Greed". I am disgruntled employee #1 right now. Besides, a blow out party in Utah, not likely...

Bah Humbug!

Being that I'm in charge of my mowing crew, I guess I have to decide what we're gonna do for christmas, maybe I'll get the guys a few good gifts, and we'll jsut sit around the office chillin christmas eve. no drinkin since #1, I'm under 21, and #2, my team is guys that are 18-20 years old. lucky me, I know other things to make em happy with, like BIG fat bonuses, and a the time from christmas to newyears off.

SuperBlue that sounds like funalcohol, doctors and nurse and a photo copy machine. My boss doesn't have christmas parties. At present there is only 4 of us working in the shopThe boss, his son, good friend and me. In the last 3 years with him I got 1 christmas bonus the first year. last two were due to another guy who no longer works there getting him upset for last 3 weeks before christmas. and last year was because he hired his buddy. Who in the last year is driving the company down the tubes. But since I am pretty much a noboby but a loyal hard worker and could voice my oppinion louder would still fall on deaf ears. I again do not plan on anything from him but a few days off. Of course no bonus this year he can plan on me not working any on calls for the next year. His buddy can do them his getting paid good money,he just bought a new house in a expensive town.

i've never been. the companies i work for usually have a christmas dinner for the guys and their wives/girlfriends. but i don't really want to get stuck socializing with people from work or worse have a couple beers and start talking.

my dad used to say when you socialize at work you only have to mention you have kids+wife/girlfriend. the rest just keep your mouth shut. especially stuff like religion or politics. all that's important is they know you're not gay or some kind of wierdo that lives alone/with mom and looks at pornos.

have you asked him yet?

when it comes to money it helps to ask. one of the guys i worked for was always complaining about money. ex wives, gas prices, guys on his other crew whining about break times and not getting any work done. but the rare occasion i asked him for something like a raise or to borrow a truck he was always good for it.

if you just hold it in all christmas and come back in january and tell him you're not gonna be on call for him cuz he stiffed you at christmas it'll just give him an excuse to make you the bad guy.

use it as leverage to get what you want. like if you ask and he starts to cheap out on you right there, then you can remind him you were on call all year and you want to do something nice for the kids this christmas.

I usually go. They will rent a banquet room somewhere and have a nice supper catered. 2 yrs ago was the last time alcohol was anywhere around though. A new no-alcohol at company functions policy had just gone in. The plt manager made them move the bar into the hallway. As soon as everyone had eaten and listened to the BS, we went into the hall. Last yr they had it at some fancy French resturant downtowm. Everybody got a doorprize. The guy across the table from me got some Craftsman halogen work lights, another guy got a Craftsman screwdriver set. I got a shoe polish kit that went in the trashcan as soon as I got home.

I usally don't go...they always have it the same weekend as second deer season...guess what my priorities are? if i have my tags filled and feel like going out and getting drunk and busting on the office people who think they are really doing good for the company, then i go..otherwise I just meet all my buddies at the night club of choice later

We have two Christmas parties. The first is held at a local body shop (we own the facility) and is employees only. It's not low key, alchohol free, or politically correct. They actually have some of the staff there just as designated drivers (not a bad idea, in all). The second is catered in at both stores on Christmas Eve for employees and families... and any lucky customers that happen to be around. Lots of kid presents- a fine event.

Our big employee blowout is our company picnic every August- the owners really pull out the stops putting on that event.
