M5OD Vent ???

My '98 had a lot of pressure in the transmission when I installed my Hurst shifter. Does this tranny have a vent valve? Where is it located? Thanks!

There isn't a vent per say. The three shift rail plugs serve as vents though as they degrade away. Sad as that may be.

What do you mean "a lot of pressure." Only automatics have a pump.

Whenever I unbolted the stock shifter, I could feel some "gas" pressure being released. I had to remove it again a week ago, and it happened again, so I thought that the vent may be plugged. I had read on RPS to seal those 3 rubber plugs with RTV to help keep the tranny from leaking, well, it leaks out around the top of the shifter hole now. I even sealed the shifter gasket with RTV this time and let the truck set over the weekend, and I still get some seeping, I think this is due to the gas pressure inside. I will try to come up with a better vent system and see if this helps. Thanks for the input.

The only reason I can think of for the internal air pressure to change would be due to the transmission lube (ATF) heating up and expanding. I'm surprised to hear that it changes so much you're worried about it. Perhaps after settling in a little bit the pressure will equalize. Very interesting...

You sure there isn't too much tranny fluid in there? Sounds a lot like it's getting overfilled and running over the top during operation. I fixed the three plugs but don't have seepage out the stick.

Alot of manual transmissions have a vent to releive internal pressure caused from moisture collecting in the transmission and then boiling off. Usually there's a little plastic cap over the vent, typically somewhere on the top of the transmission. Occasionally they'll clog up and in a worst case scenario can cause seals to leak.
