Decent Rear Suspension.

Should today's modern trucks (1/2 ton and under) have options for rear suspension type ? in place of leaf springs you could opt for longer travel dual rate coil springs with shocks more tailored to absorbing bumps.

Chevy had a coil spring rear setup on half and three-quarter ton models in the 1960's. I had one and it was better for off-roading, but not load carrying. Still, a truck is primarily for carrying loads and I think too many major options raise prices for everyone. Leave this to the aftermarket.

I'm a big fan of leaf springs. They are strong, durable, and a time proven design. I would not be against coils or air bags on a 1/2 ton, however I would be against IRS on any truck. This is just another step towards making our trucks a car. If you dont like the way your truck rides, buy a car.

Should've Mentioned.

I'm not suggesting independent rear suspension, something more like the late 60s early 70s Chev/GMC style. the differential was mounted on a large swing arm, with coil springs, similar to an ATV.

the expy already uses it. and it does better off road than i a solid axle i think.

This would not allow the rear axle to articulate though...It could move up and down, but wouldnt allow the rear-end to flex.

However, some ATV's (kawasaki and suzuki come to mind) had a solid rear axle that could articulate...but this didnt last for too long.

I support 1/2 ton or under to have the option for a coil-over solid axle in the rear. This would be a tremendous advantage for off-roading. Coil-overs offer superior travel and flex (wonder why 95% of rock crawlers run coil-overs?)
