I'm hearing that the diesels will have new standard for 2007 emmison, but haven't heard anything about gas engines having to meet new standards for emmisions yet. Any thoughts on what will be getting changed in the next few years on the V10.
The diesel emissions are getting more and more strict. Wait for the DOT to start checking diesel emissions at weigh stations... Anyone can unhook their EGR between yearly inspections.
I haven't heard anything about gas engines though.
Although, if there are new standards, it wouldn't surprise me if the V10 can easily pass them.
My '01 is "ULEV" - whenever I'm tested, the HC/CO/NOx levels are so low as to be almost unreadable. And that's not an idle test, that's the full NY Metro dyno test up to 60MPH, back down, and back up again. Same thing with my '96 t-bird and '97 Cougar 4.6L.
Charlie, I wouldn't be surprised if it passes even with the tuner on it, my car was capable of passing emissions with 13lbs - providing I didn't open the cut outs.
There are some changes being made to how the engine and the pcm monitor emissions though. And for all of us who hate OBDII/CAN it makes it harder to diagnois problems without a "Can" scanner .
The flybywire system is going to get better maybe??????????

I doubt emissions is going to impact up much with the V10 line
However this Congress hauling the oil exects in front of commitee is dangerous.
Once the common folks among us realize that it is a smoke screen and then the numbskulls in their typical over reaction will allow more stricter CAFE MPG standards and even increase the classes of vehicle that are required to get the minimun MPG figures. They will increase the fines and close the loopholes and screw us all.
This will be the second cycle of these idiot reactions to OIL and fuel costs. The death of the Muscle car was an insane over reaction and we are still stuck with the results...
Can you just imagine if the world situation had been different and the trends of 1965 to 1972 had been allowed to reach full maturity? With a few years of exception the corvette is one of the few high HP to weight ratio cars to have survived from that era.
Imagine my soldier buddies disapointment when he plunked down all his re-enlistment bonus on a brand new TransAM FireBird with the big beautiful Bird decal on the hood While a decal on the "shaker" intake Proudly claimed 455 CI H.O. and there were the Hurst Package badges on the "B" piller..
But then he lifts the hood and sees the criminal 185HP lable on the front of the air cleaner housing hidden behind a bazillion hoses and smog pump crap!
