Heys guys, the Ford is shifting hard into 2nd and 3rd, shifts into 2nd at 25 or so and 3rd at 44ish. Sometimes it will shift into 3rd when I let off the throttle, but not all the time.
I changed out the modulator and that didn't make any difference, I put my old one back in and adjust the vrv a little....then a lot and still not even the slightest of change.
I can't test the vac system as I only have a gauge and no stinking hand pump.
What should I do, hate to buy a vrv if it isn't bad.
Any thoughts or experiences?
Check the little rod behind the modulator if its got the littlest piece of trash it won't work. how long has it been since you changed your trans oil. try changing the oil with a seafoam trans tune flush add back some good oil and lucas transmission fix. and also there is a screw inside the modulator that can be ajusted also (Screw in for sooner shifts-out for later shifts i think mabe the other way around) had alot of the same problem with my 87 C6 that fixed it.
Are all your other vacuum operated fixtures working properly or are they a little sluggish? There is a rubber fitting on the vacuum modulator on the drivers side of the ip, pull it off and just put your finger over the line to the vacuum pump, does it feel like strong vacuum? If not, remove the rubber fitting and do the same to the plastic 90 deg. fitting. If you have strong vacuum replace the rubber fitting with two seperate pieces of vacuum line that will go over both the large 90 deg. plastic fittings and also the small modulator nipples
The modulator looked clean enough, but when I pulled the line, it had a very small amount of vacuum there. Seemed like it was barely enough to suck in the diaphram.
My brake booster seems to work fine, but that probably doesn't mean much.
I'll look at the other suggestions later today and post back my results.
Thanks for the info.
Okay, I finally got time to put a vacuum gauge on the pump and it measures 23 inches constant. What should it be in proper working condition?
Thanks for the advice, too!
your vacuum is fine--but start back tracing the lines till you find the restriction--its somewhere--thats why its shifting hard--and adjusting the vrv made no diff---or theres a hole in one line --

Reason: add
Mine will shift the same sometimes. As soon as I discover that it is going to do this I stop and shutdown, count to ten, then restart and it shifts fine then. I still don't know why it does this yet, but in the meantime this seem to work for me. Some day soon I will take the time to find out why...
