I Have A 2005 6.0 Psd Automatic And Im Getting A Screaching Noise Around 24 Psi Boost When Loaded.
When Off Loaded It Just Makes A Quick Chirping Noise Between Shifts At The Same Psi
Some Times Cold I Think I Hear It Chattering At Idle On First Start Up
are you sure that the screech just isnt the fan clutch engaging, and making the fan spin the same rev's as the engine? is the screech followed by a large howling sound? if so, thats the fan. the extra heat created at high boost (high EGT's), which leads to the entire engine being hotter, from more work. the engine decides it needs to cool down, and the fastest way is the fan.
oh and about cold-startup clatter, that is normal. diesel engines need HEAT to run. without it, not much is going to happen. as long as the clatter goes away in a few seconds to a minute, youre fine.
When the fan engages on my '06 it's an entirely different sound than the fan on my '96. The first time I heard it go on I almost pulled off the road, then I realized what is was. Mine hasn't stayed on for very long (cycles off fairly quickly).
Hello fellow Diesel mainia persons.Today I was informed that the Turbocharger in my 2004 6.0 PSD CC with 15,376.0 miles will have to be replaced. The thing that is odd about it is the truck is keep indoors @ 60 degrees here in New York and has not seen any real work except for pulling a 24 ft car trailer empty for approx 200 miles. The truck was fine the last time it was used. Then the next time I went to use it ( Same tank of gas and very mild day@ 52 degrees),it had no power at all.Their was no sign of a problem like noise or smoke but as I slowly gave it the gas it just wasn't making any boost .it felt like I was driving a 6cly or something. So I made appointment to have it checked out.In addition no check engine light at this time.3 days later Go to bring the truck to dealership and problem is completley gone.It drove fine on the hiway so I turned around and went home after cancelling that appt. Then about a week later I brought it in to a station for State inspection and on that trip it seemed to be slow of the line and finally coded with check engine light.Still drove fine and at highway speeds but I could tell from dead stop that it seemed like a bit to much turbo lag.Anyway I drove it in to dealership and they said turbo is sticking. They will order a rebuilt unit and call when its in
It Took Them Two Days With The Truck But They Are Finally Changing The Turbo With A Upgraded Turbo From Ford
Thank God
They Said It Had Bad Bearings
You might ask them for a part number? 5C3Z6K682K-CA is probably what you have now. I'm not aware of an up-graded turbo for an 05-06. The 05 turbo is an up-grade from the 04. You might be getting a rebuilt 05 or a new 05 like you already had.
I wish the 3 different dealers I took my beast to would have listened to me and the others on this board ... a new turbo would have allowed me to keep my 04 ...
I have a '05 6.0 And I think the turbo is bad. It makes a rubbing or grinding sound and there is no power when it acts up. If there is an updated 6.0, I must not have gotten one. I have an appt. with the dealer next week, I'll find out then.
Hey bayou man I did notice that fuel consumption was up when the problem started. My unit is sticking meaning ,when its freed up it will make boost. These variable geometry turbos are pretty tempermental.I just hope mine gets replaced with a GOOD unit.GOD BLESS US ALL.Ok maybe thats alittle overkill.Just want my truck back in one piece completly funtional and with no damage from steelership yano.
When mine acts up, I have almost no power and it barley moves. It also pours out black smoke. I don't think it is sticking, it must be off center, it sounds like it is rubbing on the housing. When it makes the noise it sounds like it's coming from the air cleaner. I can't think of anything else it could be? I hope they don't flash it at the dealer, maybe I should move computer hookup. I'm not looking forward to the dealer working on it, it is a van and the turbo will be a pain to change, I hope they don't have to pull the engine. On my last van they had to take the entire front end apart, the motor has to come out the front. I see from your profile that you are a contractor. If your business gets slow you can come to new orleans, there is enough work to keep you busy for years, especially electrical, you can can name your price and people will pay. There are a couple hundred thousand houses that need to be re-wired. Sorry for the long post, and thanks for the reply.
