They will interchange but there are some minor differences. Shoulder seat belts were not standard until '75 or '76 so the older ones will have lap belts only. And the trans tunnel is shorter on a 2wd auto truck. So you bought a shorter one, you will have to cut it out and use your 4x4 trans tunnel cover on the new cab. These things can be changed, but be sure to take note of them when buying a new cab.
Marty,
I'm not sure when the shoulder belts started, but I had 2 1975 model trucks and neither of them had provisions for a shoulder belt. Also the information on the transmision tunnels is inaccurate. C4, FMX, and 3 speed manual had short tunnels. C6 and 4 speed had the tall tunnel in the 2 wheel drive trucks.
Doc
does all these cabs enterchange or do i have to find a 79 f150 4x4 cab because it seems cheaper to buy a cab than have the body work done.
Hey V-man, how much do the cabs go for because i think that im in the same boat as you. My cab corner is dented in and they want like $700 for the bodywork.

Then my '73 SCS F-350, '76 F350, and 79'F-150 must be oddballs then, they all have/had C6's and short tunnels.
pre 80, Maybe the ones I have had are odd ball. Are your transmision tunnels solid or do they have the plate that unbolts over the top of the transmission?
Doc
Solid, with the imprint where it would be cut if it had the removeable cover. In the "sticky" thread, at the top, "tips and tricks", there is a good pic of what it looks like.
