I have a 2004 F350....wiring harness for aftermarket brake contoller is under dash. I bough a Hoppy Impulse along with a "plug in simple" connector. Sounded easy ! I plugged one end into factory installed wiring..the other into brake controller. I keep getting an E1 message on the contoller which means...trailer not connected. I checked all connections....
Thanks so much for the quick responses and offers of help.
I think I have solved my problem. I was also using a adapter to connect the truck and trailer. ( 6 wire round trailer connector to 7 RV blade truck.) I got all the wiring diagrams and traced everything. I needed to open the adapter and swap 2 wires. The black( was in center-battery) and the Blue ( Electric brakes) needed to be swaped to match how the trailer was wired.
I forgot to mention in my first post, that besides the E1 message I was getting which means trailer is not connected the trailer brakes were also locked up. This led me to believe I had wires not matching.
Hope this helps someone in the future.......by the way. When I opened up the 6/7 adapter....all the wires were soldered...except the black and the blue. Looks like they were made to be swapped if needed.
I'm having a similar problem with my 05 F-250 5.4L. Didn't get the TCS, because I couldn't find an 05 that had it. Problem is that when I hook up to my tandem auto trailer with electric brakes via a 7-pin to 5-pin converter, the trailer brakes lock up. Didn't happen on my 01 F350 PSD, so I can only guess that there's some kind of wiring issue with the 05. Any thoughts?
lisa--after working at ford for a while--id say switch it back to the way it was--and switch the trailer wires--as many trailers ive wired--either were rewired by the owner--wrong--or the trailer manu had them wrong--for whatever reason -- there is a industry standard code to wire by--
