Most people probably like the intake roar on the navigator but I am looking to see if I can quieten it down to be a bit more refined. When I listen to the engine there seem to be 2 noises that dominate. Fan noise and intake noise. Is it possible to fit an electric fan to these engines. Might save some gas mileage too.
For the intake it seems that there are two smaller boxes off the main tubular shaped intake and from what I can read these are probably designed to provide the intake roar that is a characteristic of the 4V 5.4liter Navigator engine. I am thinking of experimenting with removing these to see the effect on noise and also it may be possible to add some external sound proofing to them.
Has anyone compared the sound of the engine in the 2005 3V engine and is the intake the same design as the O3/04 model?
The noise you hear from the intake is the motor sucking as much air as it can possibly get... you cant adjust or get rid of that noise in any way.
As far as the electric fan, yes, those are possible to install, but most people do it for power or gas mileage reasons, i dont think its going to be any more quiet than your belt driven fan.
the boxes on the intake tube aire there to quiet it down. the stock fan is there for a purpose. no aftermarket electric fan will be able to pull the stock cfm's that fan is capable of almost 5,000 cfm
