leftover part

whoops-------I have been rebuilding a 65 200 six and have a question about a piece that looks like a timing marked piece that fits on the crankshaft---(has key area cut out) , it won't allow the dampener pulley on if it is on first and has nothing to hold it on if it is put on after the bottom pulley----where did I mess up---it has a small arrow on it like a timing line up mark----thanks

Welcome to FTE
You may want to put a photo of the part in your gallery so members can see what you are talking about it would help. I haven't seen the inside of a six cylinder for more than 25 years so I can't help you at this point. I'm sure someone can here at FTE.

Good luck

Don't worry about it sounds like the oil deflector. It goes on the crank after the timming gear but before the cover it get squished to the gear by the damper.
