My '91 F-150 frame is crakes right behind the front right tire, it is rusted all the way through, i will get pic's soon. If i shake the tuck the frame moves. I'm curios, is it samfe to drive and what would be a good(cheap) repair, possibly homebrew. Thanks for the help.
The truck is not safe to drive at this point. You could patch the frame with some heavy steel, but I would be concerned about the rest of the frame, control arms, suspension parts, etc. If the frame is rusted through, the rest of the truck is probably in the same shape.

I am curious--what part of the country do you and the truck live in ?? Must be the rust belt. Is there rust on the body panels??
I noticed that Ford coated my whole 92 F150s frame in what looks like wax and there isnt any rust on it at all. Was 92 the first year for wax covered frames?
I dont believe ford coats frames. The dealers is the ones that coat the frames with the "wax". Some dealers dealers dont coat them. We always get calls were I work from people wanting there frames coated, because it was not previously done.

That is what I thought also--but I noticed in my Ford F150/F250 1992 dealer brochure that Ford covers the frames in a "special wax coating".
I can see and feel this wax on my frame--I can dig into it with my fingernail.
must have been the steel from Ford River Rouge plant...Ive seen several 87 vintage trucks rusted thru the frame...ALWAYS ...the same ...right front half way up the rise in the frame...it can be fixed by welding a fish plate cut to follow frame contour and big enough to be welded to good steel. There should be strip steel formed to follow contour of top and bottom flange of the frame and welded to the frame flange and the large fish plate on the frame web...essentially making a form fitting channel on top of the bad area. The frames I am experienced with were good everywhere but the right front area.
I repaired one F-250 that was used as a snowplow and it worked perfectly afterwards.....plowing snow should be considered a frame strength torture test.
Be sure to ck that the frame isnt way off before welding..otherwise youll have a good repair with a front end that cant be aligned...take to a good welder if youre not one.
