Automatic refill...???

My 91 f150 has dual gas tanks, one of which (the rear one) I never add fuel to because it leaks after a certain level. I will fill up my front one and drive till i need to fill up, and when i switch to the rear tank there is usually about 1/4 tank of gas....? I'll drive that till the fuel guage is on E, and then a little farther to make sure i have little to no gas in there. I switch back to the front tank, refill, and drive. There is always at least 1/4 tank of gas in the second tank after ive been driving several hundred miles. Any explinations?

Yep, if the truck uses a switching solenoid on the frame, is isn't shifting completely. If it doesn't have one of those, then the one way valves in the rear pump assembly are bad allowing fuel to be pumped from the front to rear tank.

And i was hoping it was divine intervention! That explains the bad gas milage too. I'll look into those two possibilities.
