I know what you're talking about.. Once I saw the prices for the Garrett BB and the h2e, that's when I started looking for alternatives. I read on TDS that someone bought a van turbo for $125!! on ebay. I wish I could find that kind of deal but it's out there somewhere. Plus this turbo can support some decent power as we can see from mech2161's setup right now.

yeah, i think one of the van turbos will be good as well. johnny before you get a van turbo, i would recommend you get a t/c lockup switch, so the extra power the turbo adds (boost pressure mainly) doesnt make the tranny slip worse than it already does when towing. it will get all that power to the ground alot better. i am getting a T/C lockup (the one i posted about) soon, it is next on my list.

It's bolt on as long as you buy the exhaust adapter, or have your downpipe modified.

hey, you may want to look at this- ebay item #8013163302. i checked, it seems like a direct replacement, with a 1.00A/R exahust housing. wicked wheel already installed, and the compressor housing LOOKS to be a 1.15, with the 4'' intake with inducer ring. it is new, but it IS expensive. you could sell your stock turbo on ebay and make up for some of that cost.

I mentioned this turbo earlier. There are a few more people trying them. One person had some problems and the place he bought it wouldn't return his calls. If this is what you want go for it. For me the jury is still out.

Now I am curious as to why the van turbo is different from the F series turbo? Any thoughts on this?

I thought the van-turbo Compressor wheel was the wicked wheel. I have been told by a reputable diesel shop that the wheels that are being sold are the same with different companies names on them....but a van compressor none the less.

the f-series turbocharger has a exhaust housing with a .84A/R. the compressor housing is 1.00A/R/.

the Van turbo has an exhaust housing with a 1.00A/R. i believe the stock compressor housing is 1.00A/R, and an ATS housing will make it 1.15A/R.

this means that the turbo will flow air better. it may not have as much spool-up, but the mid-top end power is much better. read back through this very thread, it explains it.

The 94-97 F series wheel is the same as the wicked wheel. The E series van turbo has to be 99.5-03 to fit the same year F series. Reputable?

I thought the van turbo already came with the 1.15 AR Turbine housing..?

it probably does, i just wasnt going to say so, i didnt want to overstate it. i wasnt sure. when i was typing, it made me wonder why mech2161 upgraded to the ATS if the stock housing was already 1.15. i dont think it was $425 the 4'' housing diameter, with the bleeder/inducer ring.

Is there any way to tell if a turbo is from a 99-03 van ?? I found this one on ebay but can't tell. The item number is #7562531945.

That isn't what you want. The exhaust side will take a three bolt flange for the 99.5-03 E series.
