I have a 2000 F350 4X4 PSD CC (152K miles) truck with axle problems. I had to take one of the factory hubs off and manually get it to unlock and then put it back on. While I had the hub off, I put a screwdriver between the knuckle and the ujoint and check for play. Watching the end of the axle in the hub area there is probably 1/8 to 1/4 inch of play. There is a seal that is floating around on the axle on backside of the hub and the seal is out at the end of the axle tube. I have put photos of both in my gallery.
Is this the small bearing that can be replaced seperately or is this the big one? I have replace both hubs before (1 at 95k and 1 at 120K). The seal on the axle tube on the drivers side was replaced about 2 years ago by a mechanic when he did the brakes for me. Both sides of the truck are like this.
If it is the big one on both side then I will order the Dynatrac kit after taxes. I was looking at going with the warn manual hubs but if I have to do it I will wait and get the whole kit.
Yes sir, I believe you are gonna be replacing the unit bearing assemble on that puppy.
If you have that much play in there, you probably tore up the stub shaft too. If a seal is floating around in there, you can pretty much bet that the bearing assemlbly is toast.
I had a feeling that is what someone was going to say. Both sides are like this. The passenger side has about 57K miles since it was replaced but the driver side has only about 30K. I was hoping I was wrong about it. If I have to replace both sides at the same time plus do away with the factory hubs(r/r warn), then I guess the dynatrac set is looking pretty good. Do you know where I can find the parts list or pics of the cheaper of the two kits. I do not have a lift and dont need the full kit. I have seen this on a website other than dynatrac's. They only show the full kit.
Sorry I just went to Dynatrac's website and they have updated it to show the $1695 kit. Of course the list of parts at the bottom says that it includes the steering knuckles with new ball joints installed. I am not that good with part names but I dont see any knuckles in the picture.
