All I ever buy is that cheap superstore stuff, the german shepard I have seems to love it and he seems really healthy, and the dog food is a decent price too.
Daisy, my white lab. gets Diamond P from one of the local stores here in Ok. (Atwoods). It's not real greasy---and it's not full of fat and a bunch of other crap that should never be fed to ANYTHING, let alone my dog.
I give mine purina. he eats that stuff constantly. that, and he's growin like nothin I've ever seen. he's only 6 months old, and 60 pounds already. that, and he can stand at almost 5 feet tall, so he's gonna be HUGE.
Our Chinese Shar-pei "Shelby" has allergies and breaks out in hives real bad. So we have to feed her "Hill Allergen" food from the Vet. Stuff ain't cheap either.
I give my dog Cory, Lamb flavored Wellness dry dog food. And a hunk of raw beef or lamb meat with a bone in it, everyday to keep him busy when I'm not home. His coat glows and his teeth are beautifully white.
I feed Canidae. It's good stuff, the only thing I have ever seen that didn't cause digestive problems on a cold switch (you're supposed to mix the new food in gradually when changing).

I work for and feed Solid Gold Dog Food. I've learned tons about pet nutrition and on of the biggest problems out there is allergies. No not sneezing dogs, but skin allergies like itching at the base of the tail, chronic licking of the paws and weepy eyes.
The top three ingredients that dogs are allergic to are Corn, Wheat and Soy. If you look at most dog foods (unless it is real high end) these are usually one the first ingredients used as a filler!
Another thing that really gets the animals are chemical preservatives like BHA, BHT and Ethoxyquin (not sure about spelling). They are usaully in the meats like by-products and fats to preserve them at the slauaghter houses before they get to the production line. By the way "animal by-products" are anything that hit the slaughter room floor, beaks, feathers, feet, heads, tails... you name it.
Any way I could go on and on. I'm not trying to sell anyone to any particular brand, I'd just recomend taking a look at your ingredient list and making an educated desicion. You'd be shocked to see what's in that expensive Hills / Science Diet.
Any one that has questions or wants to know more can feel free to PM or email me.
88'7.3F-250: Thanks for the update. I may look at some other types of food once we have tests completed to determine the allergies, but those tests are mighty expensive and I just don't have the funds currently to pay for this procedure. Shelby's 6 months old and I still need to get her spay and surgery on her eyes. She seems happy and likes this food a lot more than the prior brands we had purchased. She has also been free of these hives for the last 2 weeks, basically since she started this diet. The link below is the exact food I am currently feeding her.
