My buddy has a 2002 f-350 7.3 with no mods.
He has a bad knock on acceleration, but only at low rpms. I was wondering would this be the number 8 injector or air in the fuel rail? The knock isnt always there, it has to be under the right situation.

Does it make the noise when the engine is cold, hot, or anytime? Has he made any modifications? I have a knock when the engine is cold but when it reaches operating temperature it seems to fade away.

Engine? Transmission? Maybe torque converter? I think the 02 had the new injector. If he still has warranty, and your fairly certain the noise is in the engine, to take it to a dealer. If they have an experienced tech, it should be easy for them to diagnose. Even if he is out of warranty the dealer may be able tell him right off what is making the noise. In the long run it could save time and money.
I dont think its the trany,as he can idle it up and it will still do it.As far as having the dealer do it,I dont think he wants that again. We dont have good dealers here,I personaly know that for a fact,as does my buddy. The last time that they fixed his truck, they had to pull the engine for an oil leak. They didnt put everything back on the engine, they had spare parts lol. They cut wires and forgot to reattache them.Theres more that they messed up,just dont remember everything. It was just a shock that they can mess up like that. The other dealers they just back your truck up into trees and back up into ballards, then they say it was there when you brought it in.I did a walk around with the manager. But they still tryed blaming it on me.As for my buddys truck I thought it might have been number 8 injector clader.
Thought you might have a good dealer in your area.
I wish we had a good dealer, there all hackers.Even the tech, the last time my truck was in there,i caught him smoking in my truck.Thats totally unaceppable. If the truck doesnt tell them whats wrong they have no clue where to start. What ever happened to old faision techs.
