Weird shifting

I've got an 05 with the torqueshift tranny and when shifting from 2nd to 3rd it seems to rev high between gears and when it hits 3rd it falls back to acting normal. Is this normal or should i have it checked out. Its only got 5,000 mi on it and this just doesn't seem right.

Unless you had the battery disconnected or replaced, I would have someone take a look. Mine doesn't do that, and mine has towed a lot of heavy trailers.

hey bud,
my 05 does the same thing, you can check my thread that i posted awhile back to see how they replied to it. Posted 10-17-05 titled alittle slippage when ****fing into 3rd. Alot of people said theirs does the same thing and not to worry about it but i don't really think that is beast way to go about it. I haven't had time to take my truck in yet but i am soon and im going to see what they say about it. But if you decided to take yours in before i do, let me know by posting a thread or something.

My '05 does the same thing. It started at approximately 2500 miles. I took it in and the dealer said that they couldn't find a problem. After 15000 miles or so more of the same problem I took it back in and insisted that they fix it. They supposedly changed a bunch of parts, but it is still acting up, albeit less frequently and less dramatically.

I found this at dieselstop.com:

The second to third gear change is a double change. When the truck shifts from first to second it actually remains in first and applies overdrive. When it shifts to third it disengages overdrive and engages the next gear in the sequence. A lot of the trucks exhibit some type of shifting quirks in the 2-3 shift. Some clunk and some flare (an RPM increase and decrease) during shifting. I am sure most of it has to do with proper timing in the transmission

maybe this is what the reving seems to be?

Guy's, mine just started to do something similar, but not 2nd-3rd, it's when downshifting into 1st. At approx. 10mph mine will downshift and downshift hard, do you know what it could be? I just turned 2500 miles on the truck.

My '05 350 also had a few hard downshifts at about 4400 miles. Was climbing up a narrow steep road and at about 15mph or so, it would downshift so hard it was like getting rear-ended. It hit so hard I could feel a little pain in the small of my back afterwards. The first time, one of my passengers actually thought we got rear-ended. Did it 4 times and I wasn't punching it or anything. Just a normal throttle, in fact after the 2nd "hit", I tried hard not to give it any more throttle. Took it into the dealer and when the service guy asked to describe what it was doing, I demonstrated the effect by slamming my fist down hard on his podium. When I picked it up later, he said they couldn't find anything wrong, but they wrote it all up so I would be "on record". Only problem with that, is that later I noticed that he only wrote that I had complained that the trans was "making a noise". No noise...just thought the trans was going to leave some parts across the highway is all. I've searched the two SD forums here and couldn't find any reference to this problem, so I'll assume that it's a rare one.

Mine started doing the same kind of shift. Went from Fl to PA to pick up a 5th wheel and on the way back only sometimes while exiting off the interstate or comming to a rolloing stop in OD with load and without load it downshifts into first so hard it also felt like I was it in the rear and scared the crap out of me.. 2003 6.0L 55k
