Diesel Kleen may clean the crude out of the fuel system and fix the problem.
Or you may have to get the injectors rebuilt.
That is not a job you can do without some expensive equipment.
Do you have a diesel injection service close to you?
Pump and injector problems are best left to the pro's cause they have all the right tools to do the job right.
no, no one works on diesels around here.. It took me a whole day to find a shop that could bend big enough exhaust pipe to run my new exhaust.. so you kinda have to learn how to do it yourself.. but they are simple injectors, IDI, not electronically controlled or anything.
Your 93 uses Code E injectors and a 5013 injection pump....... To isolate the bad injector crack each injection cap nut 1/2 turn until that injector goes off line. CAUTION: Cover the injector with a rag as high pressure fuel may be released. When the injector goes off line the engine should miss and shudder it there is no or only a little difference in performance then that would be a suspected bad injector, continue until all are done. Torque on the cap nuts is 22ftlbs.
Do a compression check. Low Pressure will not fire the fuel. I had one several years ago. It had 125K and had one valve go bad. Would have been a perfect time to do this when injectors was out.
Did you notice _any_ injector making little or no difference in how the engine ran as you opened each injector line? What are the symptoms you're experiencing?
what do you mean by "misfiring" and how do they know it is misfiring? When does this happen, engine cold, hot, idle, crusing or pulling? Give it a real good dose of diesel kleen or power service and see if that helps before you go ripping into the engine.
well when its cold and not plugged in, it starts real rough, shakes hard. while its at running temp, it shakes very little, but in 3 or 4 gear at lower rpm the truck has a shake to it. I checked all the injectors, when i broke the bleeder, you heard a big difference, they all seemed to do it the same????? Thanks for all the advice, Ill keep on checking to hear from everyone.... THanks

OK, that helps. Since ALL the injectors have about the same effect on how the engine when they're disconnected, I'd rule out injector problems for right now. Let's look at some simple (meaning cheap) stuff first. You say that the truck runs rough when cold. How cold is cold? What's the temp you're seeing when this happens? The hard start/rough running when cold could be a couple of bad glow plugs. Much cheaper fix than injectors. Next, when you say 'lower rpm', what do you mean? The shudder might be the engine lugging, nothing more. That's also a cheap fix. (grin) Keep us posted; we're glad to help!
well i live in pa and since i owned the truck its been in the 40s or lower at first morning starts. and for the lower rpm's when it is between 40 and 50 in 3rd gear, under 2000 rpm, and between 40 and 60 if its in overdrive, also under 2000 rpm. it seems to get better as the rpm's rise. the shake isnt too bad in 3rd gear, but if its in overdrive around 40 or45 its pretty violent. i dont use my overdrive now unless im atleast doing 55 mph.... I have only had the truck for about 4 weeks now, and its my first diesel of my own, so i need to learn as much as possible haha. thanks again everyone
