351C pistons?

I have a set of aussie head I plan on using for a 351C rebuild. I am looking for 350 to 400 HP. I need some help with pistons. once I decide on that then I can choose a cam for the compresion I will be running

Look at KB 177 pistons. I believe that they have 1.67 CH. These will give you about 11.0:1 CR with 58cc heads. Then you can use a big cam to make big power at high RPM.

Nice. If you are looking for a certain HP then I'm wondering why you aren't thinking in opposite terms ie which cam and intake etc parts do you need to make that power... then which piston is going to get you in the SCR you need in order to get the right DCR with the cam and parts that you selected to make the power?

The off-the-shelf piston selection is limited. The KB 177 supplies the highest compression height of any replacement piston. Custom pistons are expensive.

The choice of cams is better, and custom cams are cheap.

Just make sure you're compression isn't so high that you need racing fuel instead of regular 93 octane pump gas, unless you only plan on using it for the strip.

BTW, Badger pistons have aluminum flat tops that work well. I installed them in my 400M, and they work great, and were not very expensive. Worth a looking into....

I'm in the process of installing the badgers into my build as well. TMI should be getting some in soon.

Are you still around?

That's what I plan to use in my 400 also, but will those pistons work in a 351c? I thought the wrist pins were different. I also chose the route of picking my cam first, then the compression can always be adjusted with machining, head selection, piston choice, to achieve the desired DCR.

The pin for the Badgers is too large for a 351C. They may make them for a 351C, but there are other choices available for that motor.

I have KB 177 pistons in my 351C and have had good results, but it isn't putting out the horsepower you are looking for. I have the open chambered heads with a Blue Racer cam with .484 and .510 lift. and a 2V carburetor. It is way better than stock and runs fine on the cheap gas. It has been running for 6 years with only a bit of oil consumption. I set the top rings at a fairly large gap because I didn't want to worry about ring ends butting and breaking rings. It has worked fine, but I think I could have left them a factory specs and had no problems

I know that it needs a 4V setup, but it was what I had when getting it running at the time and I just left it that way.

Has anyone heard of bushings for piston pins and more than .510 lift? Come one guys we can make a 400+ street motor on 89 octane! Lets do some homework! I am making 450-500 on a 400M on $2500 and taking the season championship points for the last 5 years running!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to FTE!

Yes we've heard of bushed pistons and cams with more then .510" lift. But why bother with those pistons when you can get better ones from Tim Meyer with zero deck height and he'll custiom mill them for your desired compression ratio? There's no doubt in my mind that if Tim had decided to go with a more radical cam he could've easily pushed 500 ponies out of the 400 he built although the bottom end torque would've suffered. As it was he hit close to 400 (393) HP and over 450# TQ on 87 octane and that was with a .516/.520 camshaft.
