I've got an 03 F-250 with 45,500 on the clock. The issue is sometimes the tranny shifts smooth as silk and sometimes it shifts harsh, especially the 1-2 shift and 2-3 shift. It's had numerous parts "replaced", (EPC Solenoid, Fluid, Remote Filter, another shift Solenoid.) Issue remains with same throttle pressure each time, sometimes smooth and other times harsh. Any ideas?
Solenoid part #'s:
4C3Z-7G383-AA (1st time)
3C3Z-7J136-BA (2nd time)
P.S. Symptoms do not seem to change whether cold or warmed-up.
Thanks,
Jay
If I were you, I would disconnect the batteries and do a re-learn on the transmission. Somewhere in the tech folder sticky are instructions on how to Re-Learn your tranny shift points. It involves doing light throttle upshifts, medium throttle upshifts and full throttle upshifts. Then repeat again with tow haul engaged. If you do the re-learn process just right, it shifts like a dream.
Well, I d/c'd the batteries and did the tranny re-learn process and it seems to have helped dramatically. When I picked it up from the dealer when the work was done, I asked the SA if the batteries were d/c'd and he said "yes, I think the d/c the batteries when they do this kind of work." I should have known when I got in her and the clock and radio stations were still set! Anyway, when I unhooked the batteries, two weird things happened. First- my clock needed to be reset (expected) while my radio stations did not (not expected) Second- after I started her up and began the re-learn process, my A/C would cut it and out (stuck a Thermometer in the vent) Pulled over and turned the truck off, waited a few seconds and re-started and all is well with the A/C, very strange??
