We are adopting a moluccan cockatoo next week. She is a rescue that self mutilates. I am looking for a good parrot/'too forum to get some additional info.
We have a moluccan, Great bird but very loud when they want attention(and a lot of it). I'll check with the wife I know she has been on several forums. gat back to you tomorrow
She is not a biter. We met her last night and she is a very sweet bird. She snuggled up to 1 of my 5 yr olds in a chair. She came from a home where her owners smoked inside. When my wife's friends got her, what feathers she had were gray/brown from the cigarette smoke. I guess she couldn't stand the smell and started plucking. She is wearing a bib right now to keep her from plucking.
African Greys are wonderful, we just lost ours about a month ago due to complications from scoliosis. We also have a couple of parakeets but the Grey is the bird that made me see what great pets birds can be.
I did search and found a few sites but was wondering if anyone on here could recommend a good one.
exidenick...I know they can be loud but I've got a 9 yo son, twin 5yo daughters, an English Bulldog, and 2 parakeets in the house. The moluccan better be loud if she wants something
Smaug...rescue birds,,,,huh,,, I do miss George the Nanday. It took almost three years to get to hand feed or touch him with out bleeding. I think the first year was the hardest, where he leaarned that anybody walking in the room did not need to be screamed at nonstop. getting my amazon to trust me was a lot easier...The baby Eclectus was a joy by then....Lost them all to carbon monixide poisoning.... only 8 ppm. so no alarms for people which are set at 30 ppm would have helped. the gas came from the self cleaning oven...which in fine print mentions that small amountsof carbon monoxide will be produced... I have allways been proud of gaining the rescued birds trust...great memories. I wish you good luck.
