steering wheel controls

Is it possible to install an '05 steering wheel with cruise/radio controls on an '04?

I would like to be able to control my Nakamich head unit using the PIE radio control harness adapter and the '04 does not have any radio functions on the steering wheel.

I posted this question in the Audio section, but those guys seem to take forever to find any answers.....a much better informed group of individuals here!

I can't think of any reason why not, although you will have to wire it all up...
Bt the way. Thread moved

i was thinking of this too, but decided that the $200 for the new steering wheel could be better used for other add on's and i will continue to use my kenwood remote.

what i was thinking of doing is wiring all the heater buttons to be audio buttons, it would require a bit of tinkering but could be cool.

What heater buttons are you refering to?

My heater controls consist of two rotary dials....how would you control your heater?

On trucks with audion controls on the wheel, there are also HVAC controls on that wheel too. You can;t just get a wheel with audio controls.

beemr- I don't see any reason why this wouldn't work. I was considering getting an older model steering wheel, I just can't remember which '99+ model year had the radio steering wheel controls. I think maybe it was '02. I was planning on getting the steering wheel and using a PAC interface, w/ a Pioneer navigation unit. Let me know what you decide.

05 F350 with no controls.... want them

I also want to add the steering wheel controls to my truck. I have an 05 with no controls and just wondering how I would wire up a new steering wheel. Would there be a wiring harness that would just fit into my ford radio for the cd controls? I'm not worried about climate controls(mine isnt electronic anyhow), because all I really care about is the radio and cruise control. Let me know what u think

thanks alot

Anything can be added depending on the color of your money and your skill at integrating. If your present wheel has no controls then you don't have cruise control so the parts would have to be added for that. The steering wheel radio controls go through a slip ring assembly and into a dedicated harness and plug into the "b" connector on the rear of the radio. If you buy a wheel, slip ring ***'y, and wire harness you should be all set, or better yet secure one out of a wrecked unit. First thing to do is to pull the radio and make sure it has two connectors with one not being used. '99-'04 radios had either two or three connectors on the rear with the 'a' connector being the main, the 'b' connector for sterring wheel controls and a signal from the VSS for speed sensitive volume, and the 'c" connector for a pre-out signal to a subwoofer setup.

No, you will need the ETAC unit in place of the manual A/C.
