I replaced my power steering pump and both lines. The pressure line is leaking where it's connected to the pump. I removed the line yesterday and installed a new gasket. Still leaking. All other connections are bone dry. Any hints how to stop the leak?
If everything is tight and it has a new gasket, the housing maybe cracked. You may also try wrapping the fitting with teflon tape. Not always the best way but may work when all else fails.
the teflon seal is easily damaged, Ford recommends a special tool to install a new seal that shrouds and protects the new seal as it is inserted on fitting.
fitting end of new hose may also be damaged, examine closely with bright light for cracks or scratches. new fitting may also be defective from factory, out of round or seal nut has gauled threads.
max torque on fitting is 20 n-m, any more and seal or fitting may be damaged
these are high pressure systems, max of over 10,000 kPa

Hi Tomucen:
Does it leak where the fitting is bolted onto the pump, or is it leaking where the steel tubing goes into the fitting? The tube and the fitting is sealed by an internal O-ring that cannot be replaced, and it leaks there a lot of times, especially at the pump where both temperature and pressure are high. If that's the case, you need a new pressure hose.
thanks for the answers. It was leaking at the pressure hose's attachment to the pump. All parts were new. I installed the new hoses rather loosely. All fittings were fine except the one at the pump. It was leaking. So I gradually fastened it but it would still leak. I changed the seal but since I had no tool to slip it over the thread, I probably killed it before.
This morning I went to Ford, bought a couple of new seals. Then I went into the shop and asked a mechanic if they had the tool install the seal. The mechanic was a nice guy, he went out with me to the parking lot and fixed my problem. The tool is a simple cone. When he attached the hose, he tightened the nut with a wrench, released it a bit, tightened it more and again released it a bit. So far, it's not leaking anymore.
