Question Gear Ratio Question

hey yall, I was just wondering if there was any way to know what my rear end gear ratio is without jackin the truck up and doin the ol' "turn the driveshaft and watch the wheel turn" trick. Any help on this would be much appriciated. By the way, its a '94 F-150 4x4 with the 4.9L and a 5 speed manual trans. Thanks much.

There should be a metal tag bolted to the cover on your diff. housing with numbers on it,Post back with them numbers and someone should come along and translate them for you.

Do you still have the sticker on the driver's side door post? It will list an axle code. ...Terry

You have a 3.08 open differential.

But is the rear diff. factory? Over the years people change them out, thats why I said check the diff. it's self. Although if it is stock the door sticker is a great place for the info instead of crawling on the ground.
Just thought I'd throw that out.

What's wrong with 3.08s and the 4.9 six combination? Sounds like a good combination for maximum gas mileage. What is your MPG??

I would rather have 3.08s than the 4.10s that I have on my F150 5.0 V8 --every time that I fill up at the gas station.

oh, I'm puttin 33" tires on it, and 3.73s are the best gears to allow for good gas mileage (Researched Fact). I drive 120 highway miles a day, 4 days a week, but on the weekends we all go muddin and stuff, so I need some versatility. my MPG is in the 20-24 range now. I have researched it extensively, and done some figures, and 3.73s are gonna give me CLOSE (+-2 mpg) to the same mileage.

It's even worse having a F-350 crew cab lwb 4x4 with 4:10's and a 460, 8-10 mpg is the best it'll get.
