Engine Update
I made it back home and finished checking out the engine. The ring gap is about .045" for both top rings. All the rings were installed properly and there's no broken ones. The oil rings all look correct too...nothing overlapping. I know that .045" is too much but I still find it hard to believe that would make it smoke and use so much oil. I didn't have a single oil leak. This thing burnt 3 quarts of oil in 45 miles! I'm taking it to Craig Caulk Racing in Houston tomorrow to get their opinion....I'm pretty certain I need a new block though as two cylinders are scored...one of them bad. Does anybody know where I can get a block in the Houston area? So far I've had no luck. Also, since I'm back into it I've gotten the bug to take it a bit further. Are there any inexpensive options for stroking it. With it bored .060 over I'm at about 400 ci. I'm wondering what I could reasonably do to it. I'd love to just go buy a 428 somewhere but with 7 kids I just can't find anythihg I can afford.
