behind your seat on each side of your gas tankthere are two little cubby holes.I took a 1x8 x2' piece of oak. Put it through the table saw. (6 3/8"} cut out holes in the wood to fit 6x9 speakers. cut the wood in half. Screwed it in fits perfect. You just have to take out the gas tank first.I also have 6x9's in the doors.
If You look in the LMC Truck Catalog they have a custom headliner with speakers in . it looks like a pretty cool unit im considering it since i dont have a head liner yet... but i think it only comes in black, not sure.
there are certian part companys that sell headliners that come with four speakers (2 fordriver and 2 for passenger) installed inthe headliner. also they come with a spot for cv radio or aftermarket head unit.
I was thinking you could use tupperware containers for the door speakers. I'll give it a try cause someone already cut the door holes. here is the volvo link
i dont know how you would secure the containers .. vibration and weight come to my mind .. what i did in my dodge was to put a large zip lock bagge in the cut out so that opening of the bag over laped the cut out ... put the speaker in and secrw through the speaker ,baggie and into the door .. i trimed to fit and my grills covered everything nicely ... good luck ..
I agree with Rubiranch. When I got my truck the original owner had installed speakers under the seat and just screwed them down to the floor. Saves space behind the seat and you don't have to cut anything. Plus they sound good, no problems with water running on them, and are easy to replace.

My dash and stock stereo are unmolested, as are my stock door panels (although, they are not on the truck). I run a portable MP3 player laying in the seat next to me, fed to an AMP in the seat-back and a single 10" subwoofer behind the seat (no in-cab gas tank). The sound is awesome!

its never to late to have a good child hood
It's a Haneline gauge panel and stainless insert with teleflex gauges offered thru Haneline.com The whole combination ran about $425. There are cheaper ways to get a cool gauge panel. I'm just nota good junkyard bandit. I prefer, surf, point, click, buy, and wait for Brown Santa :-)
A variety of materials could work for custom door panels. The HardBoard is just easy to work with and cheap if you screw up. the vinyl door panels and the seat foam help with the sound. You may also notice the foam I used on the panel and behind the speaker. carpet, a good dash and a headliner all help to get rid of that tin-can sound.
HERE are some pics of what I have done. First is the box I made out of 3/4" mdf. Seperate enclosures for the two 10" Volfenhag subs. On the back is the amp. Amp mounts on the box flush with the back face of the box. I covered in in flat black vinyl. It took some time but I think it looks sweet! I made two brackets that use the gas tank hardware and holes to hold the box in place. Next is the volvo kit 99-9222 that you can buy locally from Best Buy or on Bestbuy.com for like $19. One pic is close up, the other is close up in the dash and the last is from afar. I had do file a little bit of the dash but not enough to notice with the adapter plate installed.
