I have to change my GEM on my 02 X From what I can tell from here it will be located behind my stereo on the firewall. Is this correct? If so can I get it out by pulling the stereo or am I going to have to rip half the dash apart? I would like to get it mounted up and accessable so I can drive to the dealer swap plugs to my new one and have them program my PATS keys to it so I can start my truck after the swap. I just want to save on the clubbings by doing most of the labor myself. I could do it all if it wasn't for the PATS keys.
Does anyone have experience with one of these?
You can see the problems I am having by reading my other post about keyless sleeping.
if you need to program the pats keys and have 2 existing keys you can program the new one yourself.
1 stick key 1 (original) in turn to the on position ( not start)
2 wait to a count of 2.
3 turn back pull out
4 stick key 2 in repeat above steps. 2 and 3
5 stick new key in turn to on.
6 pull out
7 test

This is great if you are using the same GEM and just want to add a extra key, but the new GEM will have to learn both of my keys before it will work.
