has anyone used or hear of the use of adding a bit of Marval Mystery Oil to a tank of fuel each time you fuel up. I was told it helps lubricate the injectors during the cold months.
12 deg. today here Alaska buy the way.
Your better off using an additive specifically formulated for diesel engines. Power Service is one popular additive line and they have an anti-gel formula for cold weather use. It is carried by Wal Mart stores everywhere.
Yep, Power Service has Diesel Kleen (white or grey bottle) A lot of people use the grey bottle during the warm months and the white bottle during the cold months because the white bottle has anti-gel in it. I personally use the grey bottle all year round here in the midwest, St. Louis to be exact, and have never had any startup issues in cold weather.
Yea I use Diesel Kleen too - more often in the winter than in the summer - but I use it because it's what I can easily find around here. I think Stanadyne (sp?) is another big name for diesel fuel additives.
Stick w/ Diesel Kleen or an equiv - Just started my PSD this am 30deg out - 1 gp cycle started right up! Neighbor's VW TDI didn't start - I suspect gelled fuel - he filled up in northern CA last week. He didn't use any additive - didn't know he should either since he's always lived in a warm climate. Going to help him get it started this afternoon.
Well i did not put Marval Mystery Oil in my tuck, i was scared to, What i did do is what you all sugested to do and that was make a trip to Wally Mart and bought big jug of of Diesel Kleen, filled up my truck, added 16oz of DK drove down the highway a bit and back home, parked it then had to fly off to work. so in a week ill see how it does.
thanks for all the info.
Ford came out with additives this summer. Buddy got me to try as he was getting 1.5 mpg improvement. They have 2, one is cetaine boost the other is anti gel. Part numbers are PM-17A and PM-18A. Both go for around $6 per bottle that treats 125 gallons. Seems like a good deal.
I like the new Ford stuff, seems to really quite the engine down. And I did see an improvement in MPG. Although, the price is a little high, I can get Power Service locally for $3.99 for 32oz. treats 100 gallons or the Ford stuff is $9.99 here and treats 125.

I doubt it's fuel, not cold enough. The TDI has some sensor problems on mildly cold mornings where the glow plugs are not commanded on until the temperature is below 25F.
