I think it was more like '74. Not sure but this was always a factor when shopping for one of my Fords.
Food for thought - I have a beautful '79 F150 4x4 and after new paint, new 400, etc. I decided all that work must have true dual exhaust running from my new headers. Knowing mine had a single cat. I asked my options (legal). I sprung for a "pair" of new small cats. at about $90 each to make my custom dual setup. Hated to do it but they do cost alot less than they used to.
>it was 1975. the same year they went to electronic ignition.
If I am not mistaken(I often am), I thought that was all passenger cars. Trucks were fazed in based on GVW over the next few years. I think by 1979 or 1980 all under 20,000lbs.
As I said I have been wrong b4.

Getting better everyday!!!
They started on some models in 75, and kept adding to them until 78 i believe. If it had a high gvwr in 78 and was a half ton, probably didnt get one. The heavy 3/4 tons didnt see use until 85, and one tons till like 88.
The answer depends on the GVW of the vehicle, the year, and where it was sold. I have a 76 F-150 that has no catalytic on it. I believe that the F-100 for that year did have one. I've been told that was the reason for the intro of the 150. It was a heavier half-ton that could be offered with no cats. Later in the 80s when it didn't matter they discontinued the F-100.
The year was 75 I have a 74 f-100 and it does have electronic Ing. and it does not have a cat. and Its a California truck.
Cats are the reasion Ford came out with the F-150 so they could bump the GVW a little to not require a cat. and then called it a heavy half ton.
