On my lifted 85 F-150 4X4 my sway bar seems to move over and hit my front shock. Has anybody else seen this happen? I hammered the sway bar back alittle bit, and put a bunch of washers on the shock mount to move it out farther. Did I install something wrong, or what is going on?
Im not really sure why but it seems like something may be lose.
nice observation...
you should start be replacing the bushings...that will tighten up the joints...looks installed correctly to me. do they wiggle when you have no pressure on the shocks...jack the front end up and support the wheel just enough to relieve pressure on the shock and see if it wiggles...do the same for the sway bar, but you will need to jack up both sides to check the sway bar.
If only you knew how hard it was to get that sway bar hooked up in the first place. That thing is tight and will never wiggle. I could check the shock for wiggle, but what would that do for me? The shock doesn't move, the sway bar slides.
Is that the right sway bar for that axle? From the pictures, it looks like it's too narrow and is pulling on the mounts and bushings. I really looks like it's at an odd angle.
Check the 2 mounting points on the axle and make sure the bushings aren't toast and the bolts are tight.
Did you replace the sway bar end links when you lifted it? If not, that could be putting it in the wrong angle. If the ends of the sway bar are at an angle and you lift it, this puts the sway bar out of it's original position and tend to pre-load it. This may be causing that excess torque on those bushings and end links.
