Cool help

okay, so last week, i go to a dealership, find an 04 Eddie B. Expedition w/33K that i'm okay with. It's obviously been driven by someone as demo. I ask if it's been service checked they swear yes. So Friday night I go in sign all the final paperwork and tell them that I'll be in on Sat after i sell my miata. So Sat i go in at 2:30 PM. And the truck was just put into Service dept that morning. I'm told (after the service dept is closed) that i have no truck and no rental and they are waiting on parts. So, now I'm a little concerned. So yesterday i find out they are replacing the Ide Air Control Valve. Should i be concerned? I'm tempted to back out of sale if possible, due to the horrible customer service i got from the sales manager. Seems the general manager is on vacation until tomorrow. The used sales manager actually thinks he did me a favor by putting it in to be serviced after their owner put 3000 miles on it driving it himself.

I would not worry too much about it. The IAC is a "No Biggie" thing that will eventually fail and have to be replaced. What you can do is try to get them to provide you extra warranty above the 3/36 at no or VERY little cost to you, due to their poor customer service. Right now, you have the upper hand. You can back out and those things are not flying off the lot like they used to. Use this to your advantage.

Thanks. I've been told that since i have not taken delivery of the vehicle i can get out of it.I actually found a equivalent vehicle(04 EB) with under 20K miles on it for cheaper than i paid for the one in the service shop. the new one has captain's chairs in the second row though. I have a 2 year old son and my second child is due in January. now i'm weighing the captain's chairs over the bench seat.

See right there you have the advantage. If you want the one with a bench (I recommend it, I to have 2 kids) use the price of the other to negotiate a better deal on the one in the shop. Get a better price or a Ford ESP Gold warranty. Do what feels best for you and your family.

I'm stuck now. I can get the one with the captain's chairs for cheaper and it has way less miles on it. 32k vs. 19K. but the 19k is a 4.6L. If i don't tow a lot do i really want the 5.4? is the 5.4 really better?

Stay with the 5.4, these are really heavy trucks and I have my doubts with using one of these with a 4.6 to tow with. Plus the 5.4 will not have to work as hard to move this vehicle and MPG is about the same between the two. So the one with the 5.4 is going to be a bit more than the other b/c it has the 5.4. Is there a huge diff in price between the two?

kanertop, the one i "bought" was priced at 25,999 i got them down to 23,903 because i refused to budge on what i'd pay monthly. The one I'm looking at is at 22,795 and that is a reduced price to get it off the lot. It's a lexus dealership and they are going to move it out soon regardless of whether it sells or they auction it. I figure i can offer less and get it.

Not a real big difference in price there. I would try to push for an ESP from the current dealer. You can use the vehicle at the other place as a bargining tool and the fact they said it was good but put it in the shop prior to delivery to you. Worst they can do is say no, then you can move on.

thanks. I'm waiting until i talk to the dealership's GM tomorrow. but is it really smart to go back to a dealership i've had problems with? i worry about being scammed on "services". I'm just totally freaked out over this. 7 months pregnant and stressing.

Hmmm, never guessed you for a woman. Well, I think your hormones are over reacting here about this being a scam or bad experience. But those are your feelings and you can only do what you feel is best. If it were me I would try to look at this as an opportunity to get a "better" deal. You do with it what you will, just make sure that whatever you do, YOU feel good about it. That is all that counts.

Ha ha, your reaction to this reminded me of how my wife was towards the end of her pregnancies. Everything was a BIG deal and caused her stress. She had both my boys 6 and 7 weeks early b/c of her stress.

Sweaver, my personal preference would be the 5.4L and the rear bench. I have owned both engine choices and can tell you that the 5.4L will pull much better than the 4.6L and deliver the same fuel economy. As for the rear bench, I think you would be better suited to have it with 2 kids.

One thing to consider is that the other vehicle will be under factory warranty for a longer time, and that is never a bad thing. good luck with whatever you decide and congrats. My wife and I had our second in July.

yeah, i'm a woman. i had my first 6 weeks early due to stress. i still have to move after i get the vehicle straightened out. Haha, i traded my Mazda Miata for twice the vehicle, half the gas mileage. but necessary with two kids. The warranty is a big help, that and the lower payments i can get. the bigger engine would be nice, but i'm not even positive the one i signed on has a 5.4(stupid huh?!). Bigger is always better to me,but reality is I won't be towing a lot, and live in such a flat area, hopefully the 4.6 would be okay if that's the road i go. Still waiting to talk to the dealership to get out of the contract though. Thing is I work in a customer service field, i don't trust anyone with shady customer service.

Thanks for all your help guys! I went last night, spoke the GM of the dealership, and worked it out. I went ahead and went with the orginal expy(it had the 5.4 and despite the higher price/miles that just feels safer to me). I got my 36k mi service for free as well as $50 for a tank of gas, and a free remote and key. not all that i hoped for, but one battle is over now.
