I am a new member looking for a little input/suggestions/recomendations from everybody.I am currently looking at getting a used Ford Crew Cab 7.3L 6 speed. I do a little bit of hauling/towing (stock trailer, hauling hay, hauling snowmobiles & have a slide-in pop up camper), but nothing too excessive. I currently own a diesel now & NOT considering anything other than a diesel. I am stuck on making a decision on either a F250 or an F350 & should I consider a dually??? Any help on any suggestions is greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Granger

boy... we get one or two of these a week...! ok here goes... if you are going to do ANY towing... get a diesel.. you will tow farther, faster, easier, while putting less strain on the engine and getting better mpg towing with a diesel than ANY gas powered truck... towing and hauling is what diesels are MADE TO DO...! if you have never towed a load with a diesel truck, you just can't know what i'm talking about. sure a gas truck will tow all those things you are talking about, but that work will help to shorten the life of the motor... not the case with a psd... now, a word about duallies.. if you plan to tow a very large load... say 14,000 lbs or more, then get a dually, they have better brakes and can control that kind of load at highway speeds better.... i tow a 10,000 lb fifth wheel camper with my single rear wheel F350 and i have no problems at all... and having the SRW is nicer for some of the narrow roads i travel down... it's all up to you, it's your money, shop around for a nice F350.. go with the diesel... the 6 speed is better for towing, but the auto isn't bad after you put the sonnax and some synthetic oil in it.. let us know how you do...!
edit: just BEWARE...! once you start down the path of the DARKSIDE...FOREVER will it dominate your destiny...!
(translation: if you buy a PSD... you'll NEVER own a gas powered truck again..!)
With the slide in you should consider the dually. It will be much more stable on the road. If the camper and stock trailer are on the truck at the same time you will probably need the F-350. The extra 1100lbs. of GVW will probably come in handy.
i agree with both of the guys above. i have one thing to add though- once you buy the truck, you will be coming here more and more often. you will begin to get sick, we here call it psdmoditis, the worse case scenario of this is emptywalletitis or maxedoutcreditcarditis. i came here thinking i would keep my truck stock other than a leveling kit, but i am infected with this for life. you can see what i have done to my truck. all in about 3 months.

but... here is the most important question... knowing what you know... and knowing how your truck performs now... would you go back to your stock setup..?
