Last night I just installed a Superchips Max Microtuner in my 05 STX 4x4 single cab with 9075 miles. I loaded the 87 octane first and left it aside from trans pressure.took it out to use up the rest of my 1/4 tank. throttle response was seemingly the same. i could tell the tranny was shifting with a little bit more kick to it. no noticable power change, basically....a little dissappointing. so...load up some 93 octane and load the hi performance tune at the station. Well...i left it alone and used the default setting. Well...started the truck..eased out to the road....pulled out under moderate pedal then floored it...pickup was improved slightly until i felt a huge driveline shudder. The truck was stumbling and shaking, engine light came on and my screen said TRANS FAULT. So I limped over to another parking lot notably ticked off. Reload stock tune and cleared the codes. Started the truck and it ran fine...drove to Walmart down the road...decided to try it again except i changed trans pressures on the high performance tune once again. Started the truck, it sputtered a couple time like it was gonna stall then died. turned the key again and it started right up...drove it again and no more codes thus far and no more shudder. hopefully i can update further tonight on progress but biggest notice is trans, very very small difference in its pull through the powerband, and cant comment on mileage just yet...i just hope it won't let me down b/c i'll be ticked for spending that money for nothing.
Thanks for the update, trying to decide if I want to do the same. Not sure why these tuners are so expensive if they only provide little or no improvments.
The superchips on my 04 totally changed my truck. My truck runs like a raped ape on the 91+ tune. It might be that the 4.6 can only be massaged so far.
Well after some pretty good running so far here are my conclusions:
Hill pulling is improved...it'll hold the speed going uphill. Rev limiter is fixed so that i can actually rev it up at people in park. Low end power feels about the same. Trans is quite noticable. Truck pulls alot higher in the upper RPM. No more codes or faults. And after giving it hell foot floored for 45 miles i'm still reading full on the gas gauge. So no fuel numbers yet since they probably wont count being all throttle. But I think it is worth the money...not by much but i'm pleased so far. I decided on Superchips after hearing all the issues with Diablo which I originally wanted. And I hadn't saw too much on Hypertech. I'll give another update later when i get the fuel consumption, or if any other problems arise.
