I have alway liked the look of the outside sun visors - the type mounted across the top of the cab on the outside of the truck. I frequently see them on GMCs and Chevy but have only seen one on a mid-fifties ford.
I'm wondering about the availability the visors. For 25 years I've told myself that if I ever see one for my truck, I'd buy it in a heart beat. That chance came over the last few days on E-bay, but I was outbid. It was a FOMOCO product, apparently not a reproduction and come complete with the mounting brakets and bolts. It sold for $611.00
Now I'm on the hunt for another. What are your thoughts? Have you seen many? Any idea were I might find another?
I posted a photo of the one I missed out on in my gallery....
I would like to see a picture of the underside of the that sunvisor, that must be the place that has the 14K gold plating, he's got it hidden just like the other items he has up for auction. This guy is dreaming. Just a little advice for anyone selling on eBay; if you post a picture of your item try not to take it in a place that looks like the city dump.
For the kind of money he's opening the bidding on the visor, and his other stuff, I would go to bigjims.IMO
If you keep your eyes open, occasionally you can get a deal on one off ebay. I recently picked one up for $65, its not a common name brand, but its in decent shape and should look fine once I get it cleaned up and bolted on.

There's a perfect one on a '51 in a Kansas yard that I've tried to buy off the old man probably three times. He'll only sell the whole truck, and wants four times what the truck is worth. So often you find them with fittings missing, or all bent up. Stu
An old timer told me that visors do not work well on later vehicles with one piece windshields. With no center bar to mount to, they do not hold up well at speed. I remember as a child my Dad put one on a car we had. Don't remember what it was, but the first time we went down the highway it blew off. I can still remember my Dad turning around to get it. Boy was he hot.
I bid on the same one, but quit bidding at 185. There is another one on there, but then you have to decide if you want original, or reproduction fiberglass.
I made one my self. used 16ga. it’s tacked on the cab now. it will be welded to the roof section and lays down on the front drip rail, where it will also be welded. (side rails removed). At this point I'm still in the early planning stages. I'm thinking maybe of running a 3/16" round stock around the front edge continuing over the doors where the drip rail was. This should allow me to mold a nice smooth look.
